Dr. Austin Parrish

Data Scientist

Dr. Austin Parrish is a Data Scientist at Melior Discovery with a background in systems biology and pharmaceutical data science.

Austin received his PhD in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology from Thomas Jefferson University, where his research focused on the role of non-coding RNAs in alcohol-associated liver disease. In particular, he studied microRNA-mediated regulation of inflammatory and regenerative signaling processes involved in wound repair, using both in vivo rat and mouse models as well as in vitro experiments with primary cells and cell lines. He has extensive hands-on experience in gene and protein expression assays, including high-throughput qPCR and RNA-seq (bulk and single-cell), as well as animal handling and survival surgeries. During his graduate training, he also gained significant experience in scientific programming, learning the R and Python languages for statistical analysis of large data sets.

Prior to joining Melior, he worked as a data scientist where he assisted clients from pharmaceutical companies in processing and transforming large-scale data, such as clinical study reports. During this time, he also gained invaluable experience working with large cloud computing platforms, earning a certificate as an AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate. In his current role at Melior, he utilizes his previous experience to integrate AI and machine learning techniques with preclinical data to improve study outcomes.

Outside of work, he enjoys cooking, relaxing with a book or movie, and practicing martial arts.
